Description of Services

Interventions

Addiction is a chronic disease, prone to relapse, making all feel helpless. Get recovery back on track now! The briefer the relapse, the likelier is a successful return to recovery. Your loved one needs family and friends to provide the way for recovery. ARISE supports recovery through your strong, open and loving relationships. The family moves into recovery and healing, with or without the addicted individual. Intervention is the action taken by family, friends, employer and/or concerned others to actively assist someone to change unacceptable behaviors. Interventions typically address such problems as alcohol and/or substance abuse, eating disorders, internet addiction, sexual addiction and compulsive gambling.

Does your loved one have an addiction problem?

We use a compassionate invitational approach called ARISE. It is a 3-phase process is a continuum of care that leads your loved one into appropriate treatment and recovery. The addicted individual is invited to join the process right from the beginning with no surprises, no secrets, no coercion, and absolute respect and love. ARISE introduces the addicted person and the family to a new life of recovery and healing. The individual does not need to hit bottom before getting help.

The ARISE process breaks the cycle of repeated disappointment and failure without the blame, shame and guilt that accompanies the disease. It brings healing to family, friends and co-workers who come together to build a solid recovery network. It works because the entire network is involved and every decision is made by the majority. There is no opportunity for the addicted individual to pressure anyone “one-on-one” which would let the disease win. ARISE gets over 83% of addicted individuals into treatment and 61% sober by the first year.

Phase 1 is directed towards getting the addicted loved one into treatment through a loving, compassionate and non-blaming First Call and First Meeting. The support system is mobilized to form a committed Intervention Network to motivate the addicted individual into treatment.

Phase 2 starts at the beginning of treatment and continues for 6 months. It includes an emphasis for individual and family to start the healing process including if possible, becoming involved in 12-step program. During this phase the Certified ARISE Interventionist (CAI) works collaboratively with the addicted individual, the treatment system and the family to ensure treatment completion, relapse prevention, and the resolution of grief and other problems at the root of the pain and the addictive disease. It also includes reviewing the individual’s life style and work choices and guiding him/her towards success and productivity in the community.

Phase 3 is optional. In this phase, the CAI works with the Intervention Network and addicted individual with a case management focus to prevent relapse, initiate long-term recovery, and complete the work towards family healing and family recovery. This includes ensuring that work, life style and personal decisions made for personal growth in Phase 2 are happening.

Phase 1 of the ARISE Intervention is designed specifically to achieve treatment entry. Level 1 applies the least pressure, Level 2 a little more, and Level 3 the most. The objective is to get the addicted individual into treatment at the lowest level that works. Phase 1 is complete as soon as the person enters treatment. Over 55% enter treatment at Level 1 and never have to proceed to Level 2. Another 23% get into treatment with Level 2 and we only need to use Level 3 in 2% of our cases.

This makes ARISE brief and effective and puts the power and energy for change into the hands of the people who care the most ( Garret, J., & Landau, J., 2006*).

Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional Assessments

The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) primary safety objective regarding substance abuse is to prevent alcohol and other controlled substance abusers from performing transportation safety sensitive functions. To assist in the process, the substance abuse professional (SAP) is charged with duties important to the evaluation, referral and treatment of employees identified as being positive for alcohol and/or controlled substances or who have refused to be tested.

Willingness To Change (WTC) offers SAP services to companies under contract and to individuals in the community on a fee-for-service basis. Our clients can expect a comprehensive face-to-face assessment and clinical evaluation to determine the level of care required and appropriate recommendations including referral to in-patient or outpatient treatment programs, educational programs, self-help and/or community resources.

WTC will also follow up to determine if the employee demonstrates successful compliance with the original treatment recommendations and a written report will be issued to Medical Review Officer (MRO), Designated Employee Representative (DER), or any other appropriately designated party. WTC also provides consultation, recommendations and follow up to company personnel as requested by the client.

* Identify areas which have presented or may present roadblocks to continued abstinence
* Facilitate the process necessary to remain free from drugs and alcohol.
* Support the client through challenges arising in everyday activities. For some, this is done through several one-on-one sessions each week. Some prefer telephone contact.
* Work with clients at any stage of recovery in the process of transitioning from sober living/treatment to their own home, or recently relapsed.

Family Recovery Specialist

A Family Recover Specialist (FRS) helps the family to navigate through recovery for up to 12 months after the addicted individual enters treatment. It is known that in the process of recovery the addicted individual might relapse several times before achieving abstinence. The FRS would assist the family through the process and would help with interventions or a positive family interaction as needed.

The FRS, is a family case manager, assisting in developing a family development plan, a positive interaction agreement, and a family action plan. The FRS might act as a liaison between the addicted individual’s treatment provider and the family’s therapist. The FRS also would encourage the family to take care of its recovery by attending Al-anon meetings and family counseling. The FRS might meet with the family in person, on the telephone or electronically. Services could be charged on a flat rate or hourly.

Our FRS would help your family create a family development plan, outlining steps the family should take to work toward furthering the family’s recovery. Just as the family had its expectations and roles before the addicted individual got help, the family development plan would help develop new roles and guidelines for the family now that it is in recovery.

Another FRS will facilitate is regular meetings with the family, with the psychoeducational component built in. Among the topics that with a worksheet can be covered during the psychoeducational meetings are addiction facts, a family alcoholism quiz, signs of intoxication, communication skills, defense mechanisms, family roles and characteristics, rating the family, enabling behaviors, characteristics of codependents, and building self-esteem.

This is a comprehensive service created to supervise and support a continuing care plan. This extended service assists in identifying additional clinically appropriate recovery resources such as outpatient programs, physicians and therapists in the family’s community. The service provides support for the family’s personal responsibility and accountability using the skills acquired during the continued recovery process. Every family’s plan is based on family history, progress, and either an identified continuing care plan or the need to develop one.

Our FRS’s concern is always the family’s health and well-being. Our FRS must develop a strong bond with the family and keep moving the family forward in its recovery. Our FRS’s goal is to provide professional oversight and support to the family as it transitions through its recovery process. With such a comprehensive plan the family can restore its life and improve the quality of life for all of its members.
